The Marina Bar Fuengirola (Fuengirola Port, Malaga, Spain)

As followers of this blog are aware I try to review our local restaurants and publish the experience in a personal and unbiased manner. Yesterday I went slightly further afield to Fuengiriola Port on a recommendation from a friend of my wifes, to take a Sunday roast at the Marina Bar. The bar is easy to find and is situated 2nd line mid port and can be seen clearly from the promenade. We studied the menu and all opted for the roast beef Sunday lunch at 7 Euros per person. When the meals arrived they looked just like what Mum would make! All the veggies were fresh, the mash was smooth and creamy, the Yorkshire pudding to perfection and the roast beef to die for, so tender the knife was really redundant. With a large glass of wine at 2 Euros and draught San Miguel at 1.50 Euros, good service and a nice terrace this bar is well worth a visit. We also saw other clients ordering filled jacket potatoes starting at 5 Euros and probably the biggest I had ever seen, with the fillings overflowing onto the plates, with people struggling to finish these huge offerings. Enough said, GIVE IT A TRY!

Festival of Jazz in Ojen (Marbella, Malaga, Spain)

To be held on Saturday September 24th with the presence of the band Almoraima Andalucía Jazz All Stars / The concerts free, will begin at 21:30 pm. in the Plaza (village square) of the beautiful Ojen.
Ojén will host their Jazz Festiva lorganized by the Musical Assoc. Zyryab in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the City. A cast of great musicians in the town offer a wide repertoire of Ojen, alive, energetic, eclectic music culminating in a good session of improvisation. The performanceswill take place in the Plaza de Andalucia Ojen and admission is free.
The first two concerts will begin at 21:30 pm and is played by thetrio Almoraima with Jesus Gomez on guitar, John Smith on bass and vocals, and the Master Gómez on drums and percussion. A repertoire drawn Almoraima will undoubtedly open with Andalusian flavor, perfect for an appetizer.
At 22:30 hours the teachers who make up the Jazz All Stars band Andalucía to limit his repertoire, improvisations and different and varied styles of jazz performed. This band of stars is led by Julian Sanchez on trumpet, tenor sax OliverEnrique, Pepe Olmedo on guitar, Joan Massana on bass and Julio Perez on drums.
From twelve o’clock, the scene of the Plaza de Andalucia Ojen host a jam session in which improvisation is the absolute protagonist.
If the weather was adverse and forecast of rain, the concerts would be moved to the caves nearby.
Please come early, grab a nice table on one of the many terrace bars on the square, have a beer and a tapa and I am sure you will enjoy the evening.

The Sky Doctor (Spain)

I make no apologies for giving the sky doctor another entry on my blog. After recently suffering an intermittant problem with my freeview system, I contacted Mark who gave me instructions over the telephone enabling me to resume using my system, but insisted on sending one of his crews up the mountain to Ojen to fully check the installation. They spent 1 hour checking the entire system, not satisfied until they discovered a small fault which was rectified. They worked in a very professional, courteous and friendly manner. Thank you Mark and your team. I have now used The Sky Doctor on several occassions to repair my original system, to re-align my dish and finally install a new updated system. Ojen Feria (Ojen, Malaga, Spain)

K&N along with all the Ojen locals are preparing for the 2009 Ojen Feria. The Feria starts on Thursday 8th October at 21.00. The opening act is a well known Feria band called Orquesta Velada who are very professional and will keep you entertained with all the well known Spanish classics. They are followed by the coronation of the new Reinas and Damas of Ojen. At 22.00 the band Orquestra Velada will play into the early hours accompanied by the Dany Cantos dance troup. Friday the 9th October has entertainment starting at 9.30 am featuring other bands during throughout the day. The final band (surprise) will play into the late hours. Saturday 10th October resumes the entertainment at 13.30 begining gently and building up through the day until the surprise act plays from 24.00. Sunday 11th October starts again at 13.30 with entertainment for the children. The main party starts at 21.30 with music through the night. Monday 12th October (Final Day of Fereia, and also a Spanish public holiday) starts at 11.00 and carries through until the grand finale at 02.00 where the Feria comes to an end, and we all recover for next years celebration. Not to be missed. People flock in from all the surrounding villages as well as Marbella and the Costa. If you want a quiet weekend give this one a miss, if you want to see the Spanish partying as only the Spanish can, please come along. You wont regret this experience.

After living in Spain for the last 10 years, and having suffered many bad experiences of general inefficiency and bad workmanship, and more importantly a general lack of aftercare, K&N are rarely able to publish a testimonial. The outstanding exception is a company called The Sky Doctor. The company has been operating in Spain for 8 years, and its fully qualified and certified team install new satellite systems throughout Southern Spain, as well as rectifying faults with existing systems. Ever since my first trip to Marbella, Costa del Sol, I have been going to the same hair salon (Cru Hair Salon) to have my hair cut/restyled/coloured by Miriam Diez, in my opinion, the salon´s top hair stylist! Miriam has been cutting hair for 20 years and is also in demand by the rich and famous!
The salon used to be based in the coast´s largest Shopping Centre La Canada, situated just off the road from Marbella to Ojen. It is now based in Nueva Andalucia, Puerto Banus (5 minutes from Marbella) and is easy to find as is just off the main road, the A-7, next to Barclays Bank.

The Annual Festival in Ojen….Ojeando!

Having finally recovered from three days of partying we can now review the Ojenfestival, Ojeando. It was a fantastic line up this year with five main bands and over twenty other acts, many taking a standing ovation. While the bands were playing in Ojen Plaza (the square) and the school there were DJ´s playing in the caves (Las Cuevas). Our favourite DJ and one of the top in Spain (in our opinion) created a storm in the village, DJ X-Sede!!! There was a massive influx of people from Marbella, Malaga, Monda, Coin, Seville, and much further afield.
The Bud Spencer Band were definately one of our favourites and the crowd demanded more, even after two encores. They played all the classic Rock and Roll covers to perfection.Ojeando Music Festival Only 6 Days Away!
